[April Dream] deepC Store: Enabling a Net-Zero Asia-Pacific through Transboundary CCS
Delivering CStore1, world’s first floating CCS solution, by early 2030s
deepC Store is proud to support the April Dream initiative—a platform to share bold visions for the future. Through this release, we share our dream.
Our Dream: Enabling a Net-Zero Asia Pacific through Transboundary CCS
deepC Store’s dream is to safely and reliably deliver CStore1, the world’s first transboundary floating carbon capture and storage (CCS) solution, by the early 2030s.
CStore1 represents more than a project. It is the beginning of a new cross-border carbon value chain—connecting CO₂-emitting industries across the Asia-Pacific region to the vast, high-quality offshore storage sites in Australia.
Through this, we aim to build a system where emissions are not managed in isolation by individual countries, but addressed collectively across the region—enabling the most efficient and scalable pathway to decarbonisation.
Our Purpose
deepC Store exists with a clear statement of purpose:
“We originate and develop CCS projects for all hard-to-abate industries.”
This purpose is underpinned by a series of deeply held reasons and beliefs:
To materially reduce CO₂ emissions and mitigate the impacts of climate change
To decarbonise essential industries such as energy, fertiliser, steel and cement while maintaining affordability and reliability
To leverage our team’s experience in delivering multi-billion-dollar projects to maximise positive societal impact
To serve as a role model for positive societal change
This is not only our business—it is our mission.
Our Journey So Far
While we recognise that we are still climbing what feels like “Mount Everest” of a challenge, we have taken meaningful steps forward:
Secured approximately 1 billion tonnes of CO₂ storage capacity through two offshore permits (G-14-AP and G-13-AP) awarded by the Australian Government
Executed a Joint Study Agreement with J-Power, Japan’s leading electric power company, for a strategic partnership to co-develop CStore1
Secured investment from TGS (a global seismic and geophysical data company) and Incubate Fund (one of Japan’s leading venture capital firms)
Advanced the development of CStore1 as a scalable, replicable offshore CCS hub, with significant technical and commercial de-risking completed
Established a first-mover position in offshore aquifer-based CO₂ storage development
These milestones reflect our commitment to turning vision into reality.
A Shared Dream across Japan, Australia and the Asia Pacific
Addressing climate change requires collaboration beyond borders.
Together with our partners, we aim to work closely with Japanese CO₂ suppliers and industry stakeholders to enable meaningful and large-scale emissions reduction by the early 2030s.
Australia, with its vast offshore storage resources, and Japan, with its industrial strength and commitment to decarbonisation, can together form a powerful partnership to support a net-zero future for the Asia-Pacific region.
Our Commitment
We are committed to:
Delivering safe and reliable offshore CO₂ storage through CStore1
Building transparent and trusted partnerships across countries and industries
Contributing meaningfully to global decarbonisation efforts
Realising our dream through determination, persistence, and a commitment to high-quality work
Closing
Our journey is still in its early stages. However, we believe that by continuing to take one step at a time—with strong partners and a clear purpose—we can fulfil our dream and help shape a more sustainable future.
deepC Store will continue to pursue this dream with all those who share this vision. We are committed to turning this dream into reality.
